MY Girls

October 2008

I couldn’t be any prouder of my lovely daughters, Alanna and Emily. They are pictured here at a recent family wedding. Alanna is attending college and is majoring in History, while Emily is a Sophomore in high school.

New Pottery Studio

July 2008

I recently started working in a new pottery studio in Marlton, NJ. I share the studio with a Woodworker/Potter, Paul Whitney, who has been a friend since the early eighties. Paul has been building a fast fire wood kiln since June and it is almost done. I am anxious to fire the kiln, as I miss vapor firing and I would like to work with Shino’s and flashing slips to achieve .

Wood-Firing at Appel Farm

May 2008

Recently my students and I did a Wood-firing at the Appel Farm Arts Center in Elmer, NJ. The firing was supplied through a generous grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the support of Appel Farm and the Perkins Center for the Arts. Many RV Alumni and professional potters, along with about twenty students made work and fired the kiln. The loading and firing took place over a couple weekends. It was a great success for everyone and something we will do again in the near future.

Josh, Jen, Paul and Heather work together to fire the Wood-kiln loading the main firing chamber.

Senior Amber Kocela is happy with her bowl!

RV Alumni Ken Delio (now a professional potter) seems upbeat about the firing.

RV Alumni Heather Ossandon, Ken Delio and Bruce Faulsett have a laugh while firing the wood-kiln into the wee hours.

The Grounds for Sculpture

November 2008

My students and I explored the wonderful Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. There we saw many impressive sculptures by a great number of different artists. This sculpture is by George Segal and titled “Depression Bread Line” and was made in 1999.

Museum of Modern Art, NYC

February 2009

I enjoyed a trip to MOMA with a friend recently. The museum has moved across the street and into a larger building. I couldn’t quite find a few things I was looking for though - maybe next time.
